The John Rylands Library

A neo-gothic treasure!

Founded by Enriqueta Rylands in memory of her husband, the library was opened to public readers on 1 January 1900. It became part of The University of Manchester in 1972 and currently holds the Special Collections of The University of Manchester Library.

Housing over 250,000 printed volumes, and well over a million manuscripts and archival items, the John Rylands Library organises specific guided tour so you can discover its marvellous Victorian architecture as well as its books and exhibitions.

This tour will be animated in French by Julie de L’Hopital (Visitor Engagement Assistant).
