A French musical performance by Charline, Matthieu and Laura

Friday 1 December – Concert starts at 7pm – Free entry

For our third and final concert of the year, the Alliance Française de Manchester is proud to present an evening of French music hosted and performed by Laura, Charline and Matthieu.
Repertoire for the evening includes songs by artists as varied as Piaf, Gainsbourg, Zazie and Alain Souchon, so there will be something to please all tastes.

With specially arranged songs from the 1940s through to the present day, and a booklet with the song texts provided to every member of the audience, it will be a great opportunity to discover or re-discover French music, with an introduction to each song by Charline, who will give more information about the songs and their context.

Laura’s passion for singing began at the tender age of 8 years old. A few years later, she began to learn the guitar and in 2010, she embarked on a 3-year study programme at the French song department of The National Music School of Villeurbanne (near Lyon, France).
Once she had completed her studies, she moved to Manchester in 2013 to pursue her dream of earning a living from music and in May 2016, she released her first EP “Mysterious Boy” under the name of Laura Esther.

Matthieu is an eclectic musician who has been an enthusiast of the art ever since he can remember. Guitarist, pianist and singer, he brings joy and good humour – and fun – to any event. A huge fan of the “chanson francaise” (even of its lesser-spotted, most uncool manifestations), he is not scared of speaking in English despite his strong French accent, to tell stories about his favourite songs.

Charline has been interested in drama since her high school years, when she took acting classes for three years and performed her first roles.
In 2014, she joined the musical cast of her school, in a semi-professional association that performs every year on a famous Parisian stage. In 2015, she thus had the opportunity to perform at Casino de Paris in front of 800 people. Thrilled by this experience, she decided to dedicate her second year in the association to writing the script and directing the cast for a 2016 musical that sold out.

Laura, Charline and Matthieu work in the culture and communication service of the Alliance Française de Manchester.
