Watch specially selected films in French for free at the moment that suits you best. Join us for an online discussion afterwards!

Would you like to discover the best of Francophone and French cinema and share your thoughts for free?

With our new Film Club format, we invite you to watch the movie we have chosen at the moment that suits you best on our partner’s new free TV5MONDEplus platform (available with French and English subtitles)!
Then join us on Zoom on the Film Club meeting date for an online presentation and discussion on the film led by a member of our team.

Please note, the French Film Club is open to all - you do not have to be enrolled on a class with us - and there is no obligation to attend all sessions. Subtitles in English and French are available for the films. All presentations and discussions are in French, so an intermediate level is recommended.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Alliance Française de Manchester cultural events are open and accessible to all. They are public events and under 18s remain under the responsiblity of their parent/guardian at all times.

In this romantic drama, after a breakup, Paul sinks into depression. Now living with his divorced father and his younger brother in a small apartment in Paris, he refuses to leave his room and thinks about killing himself. His broken family tries everything they can to bring him out of his torpor and convince him that life is worth living.

Comme des garçons (J. Hallard, FR, 2018, 90 min.)

In this comedy inspired by a true story, journalist Paul Coutard (Max Boublil) decides to organise the first women’s football tournament in France together with his boss’ secretary, Emmanuelle Bruno (Vanessa Guide), at the end of the 60s. Their team, les Filles de Reims, fights sexism and prejudice to be allowed to play the sport they love.

Central African Republic, 2013. Camille Lepage, a 25-year-old freelance French photojournalist, is travelling around the country to cover the civil war. Still very young, she discovers the dark side of her profession and the true violence of war… and finally pays the price with her life. Based on real events, and including photography by Lepage.
