The Night of Ideas

The Night of Ideas

La Nuit des Idées (The Night of Ideas) is an annual French event with an international focus, which aims to gather passionate people around contemporary challenges, through open debates, screenings and discussions, which do not necessarily have to be centred on France.

More information about this event is available on the official website:

This year, Europe and the environment are the two themes chosen for the Night of Ideas. We have decided to engage with the second one, “The Earth here and now”, and to open a discussion on the emergence of an environmental citizenship. Both experts and committed citizens are invited to come and listen to others, and to share their ideas and initiatives to fight climate change.

We will welcome five speakers from different organisations, who will present their work and projects in English.

  • Sian Day and Steve Connor lead Creative Concern, an ethical communications agency located in central Manchester. They work in many different fields including climate change, transportation, and environmental issues.
  • Cyril Caminade is a tenure track fellow at the University of Liverpool. With a PhD in climatology, his specialisation is in numerical modelling and statistics about the atmosphere’s dynamics. He will discuss the topic: “Climate change impacts on health - is summer coming?”
  • Hannah Mitchell will introduce the Manchester Climate Change Agency, their project, and their vision for the future.
  • Dave Coleman will present the Manchester-based environmental initiative The Carbon Literacy Project, which aims to teach people how to reduce their carbon footprint in order to become “Carbon Literate”.
