We are excited to let you know that we will soon be beginning the phased process of safely welcoming visitors back to the library!

From Monday 20 July, the library will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12pm - 3pm.

Please read the procedures below for more information, and don’t forget to bring your face covering!

Special Library Procedures for all Visitors – Covid-19

1. On arrival

  • Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, carer or older sibling.
  • To help ensure social distancing, the numbers of users allowed inside the premises at one time will be limited, so it may be necessary to queue outside for safety reasons at busy times.
  • You will be asked to use the hand sanitiser provided or to wash your hands as soon as you enter the premises
  • You will be asked to give your name at the front desk so that we can make a record of your visit. We will pass on your details to the tracing service if requested
  • There may be some restrictions on bathroom use, or designated bathroom use times

2. On the premises

  • You must respect the social distancing signage and directional flow
  • You should use a face covering in the library, reception, waiting areas, stairwells and corridors – we cannot provide one, so please bring one with you when you visit us.
  • You should observe social distancing at all times and wash your hands regularly
  • You should not share equipment (e.g. pens and pencils) or food and drink
  • A maximum of 6 people are allowed at any one time in the library area
  • You should expect all windows to be open for ventilation and should dress accordingly
  • You should avoid touching doors, the stair rail and desks and chairs that you are not using as much as possible
  • You should use a tissue to catch all coughs and sneezes, dispose of it immediately, and sanitise or wash your hands straight away
  • No cash or cheque payments will be accepted – card or bank transfer only
  • The hot drinks and snack machines and water fountains will be unavailable for use – you should bring a drink with you if you will need one

3. Library

  • We will limit entry to the library and reserve the right to close at short notice
  • Please return your used library articles as soon as you enter the premises; these will be placed in quarantine
  • Users will be allowed a window of up to 30 minutes to browse for books and DVDs; we cannot currently offer onsite reading facilities
  • You may borrow magazines and newspapers but you may not read them onsite
  • Please only handle items that you intend to borrow
  • Books which were borrowed before the Alliance was forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic will been renewed until the end of August, meaning that fines will not be accrued during this period.
We reserve the right to ask you to leave with immediate effect and to refuse future entry to the premises if you do not observe the above procedures.

Please DO NOT come to the premises if:

  • You have any symptoms of the virus (i.e. a high temperature, a persistent cough, a loss of sense of taste or smell etc.)
  • You live with or have been in close contact with anyone who has symptoms of the virus
  • You are in a self-isolation period for the virus due to recent symptoms experienced by you or someone in your household
  • You are in a vulnerable category through age, clinical condition, health condition or pregnancy etc.
  • You have been contacted by the tracing service and requested to self-isolate

Anyone displaying symptoms on arrival will be refused admission.
We reserve the right to administer a temperature check.
If you begin to suffer symptoms shortly following a visit to the Alliance, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can assess the risk to other clients and staff and clean the premises appropriately.
Please let us know if you test positive for Covid-19 and have recently attended the Alliance.
