Beginners/Elementary (A1)

Beginners 1 (A1.1)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn to introduce yourself and how to ask basic questions to get to know someone.

Pre-requisite: None, suitable for complete beginners.
Materials: Totem 1 Manual and Workbook (not included in course price).
Min. 5 students; course length adjusted for groups of 7 or under.

Beginners 2 (A1.2)

Progress

In this course you will learn how to order at a restaurant, talk about the weather, tell the time and give and understand directions.

Pre-requisite: Beginners 1 or level assessment.

Elementary 1 (A1.3)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn how to describe your daily routine and plans for the week ahead, and how to shop for clothes and food in French.

Pre-requisite: Beginners 2 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Elementary 2 (A1.4)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn how to describe people, give advice and instructions, talk about your studies and express yourself in the past tense.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 1 or higher, or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Elementary Practice (A1+)

Consolidate

In this 8-week course, you will intensively refresh key language notions and topics covered in the Beginner and Elementary levels. It is for you if you are returning to French after a break or need more practice before moving up to an Improvers class. If you are looking for an extra challenge, this class will also help you prepare for the DELF A1 exam.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.

French Chat (A1/A2)

Speak

An informal 8-week conversation course, where you will discuss topics such as holidays, weekend activities, food, leisure, house and home etc.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or higher, or level assessment.

Travel French (A1+)

Discover
In this conversation course you will learn the French you need to handle most situations you are likely to encounter on a holiday or business trip to France or a French-speaking country.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or higher, or level assessment.

Improvers (A2)

1 Class / 1 Song

Discover
In this informal 8-week course you will work on your listening, reading, vocabulary, pronunciation and speaking skills while discovering Francophone music and artists. Each one-hour session is independent from the next so each week we keep you entertained and interested with a different topic.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 4 or higher, or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.
Pace: Once a week x 1 hour

Improvers 1 (A2.1)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn how to give advice, make plans and express a goal, express duration and frequency, and describe a house or apartment using complex sentences.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2, Elementary Conversation, Elementary Practice or level assessment.
Materials: Totem 2 Manual and Workbook (not included in course price).


Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Improvers 2 (A2.2)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn how to describe past events, speak about your professional path, talk about activities you like and dislike, and talk about things you find funny and shocking.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 1 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Improvers 3 (A2.3)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn to give your opinion, how to avoid repetition by using pronouns, how to give advice using the subjunctive, and how to express wishes using the conditional.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 2 or level assessment.
Materials: Totem 2 Manual and Workbook (not included in course price).


Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Improvers 4 (A2.4)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will be able to give a structured opinion about your town and living environment using phrases such as "for example", "but" and "then", talk about connected devices, and talk about an object, describe it and the pros and cons of its use.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 3 or level assessment.
Materials: Totem 2 Manual and Workbook (not included in course price).


Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Improvers Conversation (A2+)

Speak
This 8-week course focuses on speaking and listening practice only, so you can get better at telling a story, describing, talking about personal experiences and discussing plans. Perfect if your speaking skills need a little boost!

Pre-requisite: Improvers 4 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.
Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

Improvers Grammar Clinic (A2)

Consolidate
In this small-group workshop course you will study key grammar terminology and revise grammar points covered at the Elementary levels.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or higher, or level assessment.

Intermediate (B1)

Discover

Discover

In this 8-week course, you will discuss current social, cultural, environmental and political affairs in France and around the world, exploring the context as well as the headlines.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4 or higher, or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 1.5 hours

Intermediate 1 (B1)

Progress
In this 8-week course, you will learn to speak about the future, to use the conditional, to talk about cause and obligation and to talk about your relationship with the media and what you think about journalism.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 4, Improvers Conversation, Improvers Practice or level assessment.
Materials: Totem 3 Manual and Workbook (not included in course price).
Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Intermediate 3 (B1.3)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn to express doubt and fear, express duration and consequence, and discuss advertising and different family structures.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 2 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Intermediate 4 (B1.4)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn the passive form, about agreeing past participles, sequencing of events in the future, and talk about connected devices and the cult of beauty.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 3 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Intermediate 5 (B1.5)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will talk about superstition and learn how to give general information, how to express a regret about the past, concessions and oppositions, and the image that you have of France and French people.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4 or level assessment.

Intermediate Conversation (B1+)

Speak

In this 8-week course, which is suitable for those who have completed the Intermediate classes or have a similar level, you will practise explaining a problem, complaining, giving reasons for your point of view, and taking part in a debate.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4 or level assessment.

Higher (B2)

Higher 1 (B2.1)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn how to express certainty and doubt, and express disagreement in a nuanced way. You will also discuss France as it is seen by foreigners and the question of equality.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4, Intermediate Practice, Intermediate Conversation or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Higher 3 (B2.3)

Progress
In this course, you will learn to speak about history, using all of the past tenses, and how to give a detailed description of a person's physical appearance. You will also discuss the themes of immigration, and technology in medicine and healthcare.

Pre-requisite: Higher 2 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Higher 5 (B2.5)

Progress

In this 8-week course, you will learn to express the manner in which something is done, conditionality and hypothesis. You will also discuss household tasks, emigration for professional reasons, and compare the working world and workday routines in the UK and in France.

Pre-requisite: Higher 4 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Higher Conversation (B2+)

Speak
This 8-week course will give you the opportunity to discuss and debate various advanced-level topics taken from French, British and international news and other sources. It is a perfect informal way to improve your fluency and extend your vocabulary.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.
Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

Higher Conversation (B2+)

Speak
This 8-week course will give you the opportunity to discuss and debate various advanced-level topics taken from French, British and international news and other sources. It is a perfect informal way to improve your fluency and extend your vocabulary.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 1.5 hours

Higher Conversation + Grammar (B2+)

Speak
This 8-week class consists of one hour of "à la carte" grammar revision and two hours of discussion and debate on various advanced-level topics. A great way to maintain and develop your vocabulary and a good level of fluency without forgetting your grammar.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

Higher Conversation + Grammar (B2+)

Speak
This 8-week class consists of one hour of "à la carte" grammar revision and two hours of discussion and debate on various advanced-level topics. A great way to maintain and develop your vocabulary and a good level of fluency without forgetting your grammar.

Expertise (C1)

Arts & Culture (C1)

Discover
In this 8-week course, you will explore the French-speaking cultural landscape through literary works, cinema, the visual arts and music. You will discuss extracts from documents provided by your teacher and explore additional sources such as videos, paintings or musical works, while also learning about contemporary French cultural life.

Pre-requisite: Higher Conversation, Higher Conversation + Grammar, Higher 6, Expertise or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.
Pace: Once a week x 1.5 hours

Expertise (C1)

Progress
In this special 8-week class for advanced-level students, you will fine-tune your French listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, working towards expressing yourself on an ever-wider range of topics, with greater finesse and nuance and a higher level of accuracy. If you are looking for a challenge, this course will also help you prepare for the DALF C1 exam.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or above, or level assessment.
