Welcome to our programme of French group courses! Run in 8 or 16-week sessions year-round, they cater to all language levels - from beginner to very advanced.

Our group classes are suitable for students aged 15+. Please email us for all enrolments of a student under 18.

If it is your first class with us and you have learned some French before, please book a level consultation before enrolling to make sure you take the right class. The level consultation costs £7 which will be deducted from your course fees if you enrol within 12 months.

Beginners/Elementary (A1)

Beginners 1 (A1.1)

Progress

In this course, you will learn to introduce yourself and how to ask basic questions to get to know someone.

Pre-requisite: None, suitable for complete beginners.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Elementary 1 (A1.3)

Progress

In this course, you will learn how to describe your daily routine and plans for the week ahead, and how to shop for clothes and food in French.

Pre-requisite: Beginners 2 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Elementary Conversation + Grammar (A1+)

Speak

In this course, you will focus on speaking and listening practice, with short discussions on everyday topics, group activities and pronunciation exercises. You will also refresh key language notions covered in Beginner and Elementary levels.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.


Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

French Chat (A1/A2)

Speak

An informal conversation course, where you will discuss topics such as holidays, weekend activities, food, leisure, house and home etc.

Pre-requisite: Elementary 2 or higher, or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.


Pace: Once a week x 1 hour
Improvers (A2)

Improvers 2 (A2.2)

Progress

In this course, you will learn how to describe past events, speak about your professional path, talk about activities you like and dislike, and talk about things you find funny and shocking.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 1 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Improvers 4 (A2.4)

Progress

In this course, you will be able to give a structured opinion about your town and living environment using phrases such as "for example", "but" and "then", talk about connected devices, and talk about an object, describe it and the pros and cons of its use.

Pre-requisite: Improvers 3 or level assessment.

Intermediate (B1)

Intermediate 2 (B1.2)

Progress

In this course, you will discuss travel activities and new trends in travel, learn to report what someone else has said, to sequence using past tenses and to present a goal and a hypothesis.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 1 or level assessment.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Intermediate Conversation (B1+)

Speak

In this course, which is suitable for those who have completed the Intermediate classes or have a similar level, you will practise explaining a problem, complaining, giving reasons for your point of view, and taking part in a debate.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.


Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

Intermediate Practice (B1+)

Consolidate

In this course, you will intensively refresh key language notions and topics covered in the Intermediate levels. It is for you if you are returning to French after a break or need more practice before moving up to a Higher class. If you are looking for an extra challenge, this class will also help you prepare for the DELF B1 exam.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate 4 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.


Pace: Once a week x 2 hours
Higher (B2)

Higher 3 (B2.3)

Progress

In this course, you will learn to speak about history, using all of the past tenses, and how to give a detailed description of a person's physical appearance. You will also discuss the themes of immigration, and technology in medicine and healthcare.

Pre-requisite: Higher 2 or level assessment.

Higher Conversation (B2+)

Speak
This course will give you the opportunity to discuss and debate various advanced-level topics taken from French, British and international news and other sources. It is a perfect informal way to improve your fluency and extend your vocabulary.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.

Pace: Once a week x 2 hours

Higher Conversation (B2+)

Speak
This course will give you the opportunity to discuss and debate various advanced-level topics taken from French, British and international news and other sources. It is a perfect informal way to improve your fluency and extend your vocabulary.

Pace: Once a week x 1.5 hours

Higher Conversation + Grammar (B2+)

Speak
This class consists of one hour of "à la carte" grammar revision and two hours of discussion and debate on various advanced-level topics. A great way to maintain and develop your vocabulary and a good level of fluency without forgetting your grammar.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.

Pace: Once a week x 3 hours

Higher Conversation + Grammar (B2+)

Speak

Discover

In this course, you will discuss current social, cultural, environmental and political affairs in France and around the world, exploring the context as well as the headlines.

Pre-requisite: Higher Conversation, Higher Conversation + Grammar, Higher 6, Expertise or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.


Pace: Once a week x 1.5 hours

Expertise (C1)

Progress
In this special class for advanced-level students, you will fine-tune your French listening, reading, writing and speaking skills, working towards expressing yourself on an ever-wider range of topics, with greater finesse and nuance and a higher level of accuracy. If you are looking for a challenge, this course will also help you prepare for the DALF C1 exam.

Pre-requisite: Higher 6 or above, or level assessment.
Materials: Provided by the teacher.
